I like these stories about these strong, competent, untraditional women who know what they want and work through their opposition and win everyone over. Vivid was definitely a heroin to my liking. Not that Nate as a hero was bad either.
My least favorite part of this audiobook was the narration that felt very jerky at times. Looking forward to reading or listening other Beverly Jenkins books in the future. But hopefully with different narrator.

All the sexy bits got a bit tedious after a while, but I enjoyed this read. I especially liked the historical trivia sprinkled in throughout the book.
It’s Beverly Jenkins. Nothing else really needs to be said. She does an amazing job of mixing the perfect amount of romance with historical fiction.
I liked the heroine a whole lot and the hero... less. I also struggled with the exposition heavy writing style. It kept pulled me out of the narrative and I found it distracting.
This was my first Beverly Jenkins and it certainly won’t be my last. Just phenomenal story-telling, world building, character development, the whole bit. People talk a lot about world building in PNR or fantasy or sci-fi genres but I have to say the rich details of post Civil War era in Michigan was just amazing and such a beautiful learning experience. I loved every word of this book, from the incredibly vivid (sorry, couldn’t help it) characters, to the action packed plot, to the incredibly sexy love scenes. This book was a treasure, much like the author. I can’t wait to dive into more of her books.
I liked the historical aspects, I liked the strong female doctor character and I really liked that she still stayed a doctor and still stayed strong after she got into a romantic relationship with the hero.
I did NOT like the hero or the romance. Very cringe-worthy and his lines were just gross. I was not a fan.
