A fascinating biography of a woman who was infamous in her own time and deserves to be better known today as a regressive conservative movement once again threatens women's reproductive rights and forces abortion providers to halt services or go underground.

Informative. And the epilogue had me near tears. We’ve come so far in many ways, but we have much further to go.

I really enjoyed this book - lots of interesting things to learn about what the mid-1800s were like, and this history read a little bit like gossip. I thought the historical analysis was a bit of a stretch in some parts, but overall learned a lot and definitely some interesting stuff I didn’t know before. The stuff about working class moms having to drug their kids, the Compstock guy, and all the crazy stuff about Madame Restell’s life - riveting.

A fascinating and absolutely relevant history.

Absolutely incredible. An important read for anyone who is pro-choice, and honestly even more so for those who are not.

I love learning about women who stand up for themselves. Even better when it benefits all women. I wish would have went differently. I feel like our country would have been so much better off
