Mara Wilson's narration was A++. Restell was a fascinating anti-hero and the snapshot of the medical industry at the time was well-researched and vivid. Loved it and hated the timeliness.

this book is timely and important and informative and interesting. i had no idea about madame restell & i'm glad i do now. abortions have always happened, will always happen, and need to be accessible & safe.
madame restell's life was interesting and the way she conducted herself & ran her business is admirable. she was skilled & unapologetic. her ending shocked me a bit, but makes sense.
the story got a bit repetitive and i lost interest a bit about 70% through but pulled through to get to the end. there were a few tangents that i didn't really care for or details i thought didn't aid the main narrative. but overall a strong book.
i immensely enjoyed the epilogue and how the author refocused it back to modern times, mentions the inequality women of color & pregnant people suffer in this country. i will say, it came across a bit "i didn't really get abortion until i had difficulty getting pregnant & almost died giving birth" which is a bit wild considering she spent an entire book talking about a woman who advocated for abortion simply because people couldn't or didn't want to have children.
overall a great profile of a woman who made history who is rarely talked about and i think deserves way more attention.

well Jenny did it again! writing another coherent, beautiful, funny, tragic, informative, and gripping history book that keeps me engaged the entire way through. I think Madame Restell faked her death! she’d never just leave her diamonds behind. Jennifer you are my favorite author of all time thank you for this book.

A very informative book that although it took me quite a bit longer than normal to read I still didn't want to stop. Madame Restell was definitely someone I'm glad I learned this much about and am amazed at the woman's strength and determination. There was a bit of rambling on some things I could've done without but overall it was very well done.
