Really enjoyed the full story until the last maybe 40 pages. The ending was a flop for me. Such a great build and in the end they just decided to be together and that was that! I felt like it needed more meat to believe that they could successfully stay together based on the book's description of their past behavior.

2.5 stars because it was a quick and entertaining read, I'll give it that. But overall it was trying to be way too many things. It felt like it was trying to cram in race, invisible illness, self-harm, addiction, codependency, mother/daughter, history, ethnicity, pop culture, writing/book world, and even trying to be smut but wasn't even committed to that.

I loved the story and the feels that came with reading it. I’m happy that they met again as healthy (or working on it) adults.
Yet, I sit back and think was Eva + Shane’s foundation built on trauma bonding? Hmm. . .

A great summer/life read. A story of two authors who haven’t talked directly to each other since high school, but have communicated through their stories. Well, until they’re unexpectedly reunited for seven days. Audre might be one of my favorite characters this year.
