A lovely record for Mythology, I’ve spent a few months off and on reading and annotating my copy.

If you’re a fan of myth retellings but aren’t always familiar with the myths this can be lovely to have on hand!!

A great intro to mythology. I know a lot of folks read it in high school (myself included) but I think it's worth a read even if it's not in your curriculum.

It's not Edith; it's me. I just can't get into this type of mythology.

This is a fantastic book! It makes Greek mythology very accessible to the non academic. 😊 It was nice to have a Norse mythology section at the end, I only wish it was longer.

I started reading my dad's ratty copy of this when I was a kid. My friend at the time, Alex, and I used to do drawings of its various mythical beasts. Recently I saw the same exact edition at a used bookstore and realized it was time to re-read. It's been great to go back over all this material that I thought I knew better than I really did!

I tried to read this like a novel, because that's just the way I read books-big mistake. Hear me out now, DO NOT READ STRAIGHT THROUGH. I found myself wanting to bury this book somewhere and forget where I'd buried it so I would never have to pick it up again. It took me weeks to read-which is very unusual for me. Ihink this is good as a reference book, but for me, it held very little entertainment value. It was informative, but told in a very dry manner. I felt like I was sitting in a lecture hall. I'm excited to read some mythological fiction now that I have some knowledge of mythology, and I can refer to this as a reference book. Although, truth be told, it might have served me just as well to read up about mythology online. I definitely would have saved myself a lot of time!

This is simply a reading of various brief stories from Greek mythology, with some commentary in between on the stories and about the different authors and their styles. It's not as engaging as modern fiction, of course, but isn't bad. If you want a sort of Cliff's notes for a wide variety of Greek mythology, this isn't a bad way to go. It did seem rather out of place to randomly throw in an extremely brief segment of Norse mythology at the very end. That shoul have been omitted.

I was OBSESSED with this book when I was in middle school and recently got my hands on an updated edition. Such a handy and easy to digest resource that covers a broad spectrum of Greek Mythology. Edith is that GIRL.
