I was assigned this for a college credit course in high school that I was taking online. I skipped reading most of it and bombed the class. Two decades later and much more casual mythology reading under my belt, a return to this was a delight. It is textbook-like in that it covers everything and Edith writes with notes about her sources. However coming to it now having absorbed many more modern retellings, it was a delight to have such a skillful guide back to the sources (or as close as we can get).

A classic for a reason.

Exactly what it says on the tin.

A good read, a nice introduction to Greek or Classical European Mythology, seeing as it also touches upon Roman and Norse Mythology.

Whilst I enjoyed it, I think the prose is a little dated, at times it felt hard going but the tales were enjoyable. If I were to read up on Greek Myhtology again I would feel prepared enough to progress onto The Greek Myths by Robert Graves.

I actually am one of those people that really enjoy Greek Mythology. That's why I read this book; it was really long but (most of) it was enjoyable. I didn't like the Trojan War, or the Quest for the Golden Fleece, but I enjoyed all the tales of love and romance. I especially love the story of Hades and Persephone. It has been my favourite story since I was in grade school; I don't know why, but it seems so romantic yet tragic. I also really like the story of Cupid and when he fell in love, I thought that was very cute and amazing that he got to find love too.

I know that Greek Mythology is fiction, but it is so fun to imagine how these gods would be acting now-a-days, if they were on Earth with us and were hidden among us. I think its pretty cool to learn about this stuff because of all the adventures and romance and just interesting stories.

If you like Greek Mythology, this is a book you shouldn't miss. It is just overall fun to read.
