This is a brilliant, inventive romance book about messy, beautiful, complex characters. The premise was original, the imagery is vibrant, and the chemistry is so magnetic that you feel it the whole way through.

After finishing this book, it has continued to live rent-free in my mind since then. I find myself thinking about the story very often. Highly, highly recommend.

I did really enjoy this book, and probably would’ve absolutely loved it if not for the initial discomfort I felt with the premise of the main conflict —
that Feyi falls in love with and decides ultimately to pursue a relationship with the father of the man she’s already involved with.
I don’t really have a problem with age-gap romances, but that particular vein of relationship dynamic really squicked me out for some reason, to the point where I almost put the book down. I could see by about halfway where the plot was headed, but I think it must have been more the anticipation of
Feyi crossing into *something* with Alim
than anything else, because for the last third or so of the book once they’d crossed that line, so to speak, I was much more okay with it. I still didn’t love that dynamic situation, but not so badly I wanted to stop reading. Overall, I really did enjoy the book, and aside from that one aspect, really don’t have anything negative to say.

Easiest 5 stars of all my reads so far this year. My favorite part about this story was how just... Well the characters were. Yes there was grief, yes there were messy emotions and hurt, but there was also constant communication and care for each other. The writing was excellent and all the themes in the story were handled with such nuance. I love this book.

This definitely is a book that will leave you pondering over so much, especially when it comes to love & relationships. I felt that even though I was struggling to accept the choices and decisions our female MC was making, they ultimately were hers to make, not mine. I loved Joy and wish there was a book on her story alone. The ending felt abrupt and I wish it ended cleaner but minus that this was a novel that wasn’t afraid to be a little messy, provocative and spicy 🤭

Whew. Complicated, raw, sensual, powerful, romantic, redemptive, messy as hell ... kind of amazing?
