I did not enjoy this book. There are numerous plot holes characters that were unnecessary and so many unanswered questions that I could never recommend this book.

the fact that this is a spinoff and the world building felt lazy is a red flag

also, the romance was a bit boring because it lacked chemistry and felt rushed, even though it’s one of my favorite tropes

2.5 stars

i love me a good shifter book and i quite enjoyed this book more than her other series.

Mmmmmmmmm Miss Wolff is back.

This series is a lot darker than Crave (like seriously did we all read fourth wing and decide we needed copious amounts of melodramatic deaths??? At least let me care about someone before they die jeez) and builds on a lot of things in it (hence a spin off series. (If you don’t want to read the original series, it’s your own fault for not understanding what is happening. We all spent 6 books learning the magic system and world mkay?)

Anyway, they’re teens. They’re a little bit angsty. And the story is a little more jumbled than the original crave. I like that it hit the ground running (no need for the FMC to learn what magic is here!) but it also threw a lot of punches in the last 4 chapters that did not get built up properly and I for one am confused and enraged that I will not get book two for MONTHS. And I am flabbergasted that it ended the way it did. We already had a long ass book what would another two chapters have hurt to make that hit better?

I ♥️ Jude and Clementine. I am here for a series where I can avoid annoying triangles. GIVE ME MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! But maybe less death next time kthxbye

so like. a good portion of this book is just a bunch of teenagers dying and being killed in fucked up ways (their nightmares coming true, and then a 'natural' disaster).
it's an institution that calls itself a school. the pacing gets real fast once the disasters start happening. please look up the complete trigger warnings for this book because if burning alive or body horror where faces are partially missing or whatever is a bit much for you, beware. there's a few of that kind of thing.

at the same time, I feel like I didn't really get to know the characters that well. like what on earth does Jude even LIKE to do? what does Clementine LIKE about him besides just that he is Jude? they clearly are really into each other and have a lot of grief and some baggage but like bruh what else. what coping mechs does Clementine have? Jude at least retreats.

the characters are pretty 2D but the plot is pretty 4D which made me keep going.

I listened on audiobook at 2.4x speed so YMMV if you read it analog.
