Starts off with a truly violent scene, made it through that and put it down. No desire arose to pick it back up after 2 days.
The Crave series sucked me right in; this didn't.
Maybe some other time. Maybe not

There were a few too many characters to keep track of. I wanted to read more from the MMC and MFC but there was just a lot going on. The world itself is pretty crazy and super interesting. World building needed a more stable base, but still a good read.

Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolff
Dates Read: 6/24-7/2/24
Overall Rating: 3/5

This new YA fantasy novel takes place at the scariest school in this world… the home of the worst creatures and most terrifying monsters, Calder Academy. These creatures have broken rules, lost control, and this is their last chance. What happens when this school, that is warded by power and magic to prevent chaos, gets stuck in one of the worst storms to ever hit the island? This story follows Clementine, whose family runs the entire school. She has been stuck on this island since she was born and her only dream is to graduate to get off of it. Will she succeed or will this storm get in her way?

This book took me SO long to get through. I sped through the beginning and dragggggged through the end of the book… TBH I didn’t even finish the epilogue because I kept FALLING ASLEEP. This book literally put me to sleep. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the idea of the story, but the writing and the plot really effected my experience. There were times when the writing just made me cringe… and I think it is mostly because she is trying to appeal to a younger audience by including current pop culture moments, but it was (at times) painful. I enjoyed the story, but she kind of lost me in the end there. I was confused throughout the final 15% of the book. I’m not sure if things were introduced because this is going to be a new series and she is just setting things up, or if there are THAT many loose ends. I’m not sure if I will be continuing the series or not, I suppose I will decide once the next installment comes out.

Ok I have given Wolff another chance and let me say I have never read a book so far that also took longer than usual for me to read. The story in the book was really good, I enjoyed how there was different paranormal creatures and the setting wasn’t really anything amazing but it had a different feel to it overall. There was honestly too many characters to really keep track of in the book for me but I was able to keep MOST of them straight as in I think like 7/13 I remembered so I am proud of myself. The romance in it felt… idk at first but it definitely grew on me in the end. The ending of the book also confused me a little bit but nonetheless I am curious to find out what is next for the group.
