My head hurts. That's the only thing I can say. I'm shook. I'm going to try to gather myself so that this ends up being semi-coherent.
If you like Rules for Vanishing or Our Last Echoes or really anything by the queen Kate Alice Marshall, you will like this.
It Looks Like Us is a YA horror with both supernatural and evil capitalistic elements. I'm not sure what compelled me to read the little copyright page in this book, but this one says "While certain characters in this book are inspired by real people, the incidents and events are entirely fictional"--interesting right?
Especially when you find out about Anton Rusk. Sounds like the new twitter owner, no? And the man is the second richest in the world, sent stuff into space... etc. I had a kick reading about this guy, particularly because of the dumpster fire that is twitter atm
I want more. I am stressed, the ending has so many questions. Let's talk characters:
Riley-Anxiety rep! Asexual rep! My girl is out here having panic attacks, which would probably make her "weak" in the eyes of many, but my girl lives? Then dies? But lives? is infected? Idk but she did that
Luke-I'm so lost. Again, I want answers. He's a sweet boy and we love gay rep:)I want to know if he's infected? Was Riley being real there? WHAT HAPPENED???
Ilse- An absolute badass. German-American, has some trauma. She's a strong girl and deserved better.
Daesung- Korean-American rep! Journalist, inquisitive, shy. He hates capitalism and we love him for that.
Nelson-British?He really wasn't around long enough for us to learn much about him puts on a charming front.
I'm seriously still processing everything I just read. I want there to be a second book, I really do just want concrete answers, but I also love that there weren't any. Contradictions are my lifeblood, it seems.
This is the perfect winter horror story. You thought spooky season was over after Oct. 31st? Think again.
