I love a good Groundhog Day-inspired story, and Maybe Next Time absolutely delivers. It did take me a while to warm up to Emma, but the lessons she learns along the way are both profound and beautifully woven into the narrative. They leave you reflecting on how to make the most of your own time.
The ending, however, was heart-wrenching and left me conflicted—I'm still not sure how I feel about it. While I appreciated the emotional depth, it made me hesitate between giving the book a 3 or a 4, especially since it took a bit of time for me to connect with Emma

I think the Great Believers ruined books for me - 3rd three star review in a row, everything is mid compared to that
In its nature this book could’ve ended up repetitive and boring but although we see Emma reliving her day and battling to change outcomes and deal with the torment it is more about her journey and understanding of her place in life and how she wants to live it, what choices she can control.
It’s thought provoking and emotional, well written and at its heart a bit of a love story.
I received this as an ARC and provided an honest review

I get married in a little less than 2 months. The thing about me is that I plan. I plan my day my week, way in the future more than a normal person ever should plan. This book really made me think about what I want my future to look like. The impact of my actions now and how stressful life can be.
I am crying at work this book is/was so emotional. I think I went through all the stages of grief alongside the main character.
I like this book so much I am going to reread it with my fiancé.
That is all I have to say, I am going to go wipe my tears away now.

Reese Witherspoon knocked it out of the park again with her book club pick! She’s 11/12 this year!
I will admit, I'm a sucker for the Groundhog Day trope. Put that in the synopsis and I'm pretty likely to read the book. This ended up being a touching and meaningful story, but it did take me a while to warm to the main character.
Emma and Dan met 15 years ago, and on their yearly dating anniversary they write each other a letter about the previous year and their hopes and dreams for the future. Fast forward to the present day, and they are married with two kids, both busy with their work and other commitments. Emma is OVER committed, she is frazzled and running every which way, trying to make everyone happy and pretty much failing at all of it. She forgets to write the letter this year, and Dan leaves the house in a huff to walk the dog, is hit by a car and dies. After that traumatic incident, Emma goes to sleep and wakes up--it's the previous day again. What must she get right before she can move on?
I found the premise of this book and the ultimate outcome of the story to be unique and emotionally moving. Like I said, it took me a while to get there. I couldn't identify with Emma's drive to be such a people pleaser, ignoring the red flags right in front of her for way too long. Even after re-living the same day over and over it took her forever (it seemed) to get a clue as to what needed to be changed.
The ending is poignant and bittersweet, and was actually really unexpected for me. I definitely cried, but not because the author pulls a fast one on the reader. It's because the ending is actually quite perfect for the way the story plays out.
If you like touching stories about marriage, family, and real life, be sure to pick this one up. It does the time loop trope justice.

I read it all in one day.
Hey, so, what the fuck. This book was so lovely, Dan and Emma’s relationship was so raw and real. But I really can’t get over that ending. I know people say that it felt like it fit but to me it just felt a little cheap and deeply unsatisfying. For my peace of mind I choose to take the ending with hope. And if the film ever gets made I don’t think I’ll be watching cause I might literally pass away.
