This is a brilliantly written book, the narrative voice is endearing and entertaining, and Elijah Wood read it excellently, not an easy book to read aloud.
The American South is a horrible place, and Huck and Jim's story is both endearing & entertaining and depressing in equal measure. Huck was my favourite character in Tom Sawyer and he didn't disappoint in this, he's plucky, independent, introspective, smart, moral (though he don't realise it) and loyal once he's made his mind up. So I loved him.
The book did meander a bit on occasion though so it lost me in places, and was perhaps a tad longer than it needed to be. I also didn't love the ending, it was all a bit too contrived and not very satisfying...

Listened to the audiobook version. The narrator does a good job of portraying the characters but probably because of the current heatwave I didn't always have the concentration span to register the story. Will re-read at a later date.
