I knew going into this book that most people love it and other don’t like it due to the toxicity at all. Well I figured I liked Chuck and Blair from gossip girl so this would be a love for me but I was wrong. Magnolia, and more specifically BJ, are abusive and manipulative toward each other and that all fine and good except it’s romanticized to the nth degree, and there’s nothing romantic about breaking your partner. I found some of this book triggering, especially BJ as he blames Magnolia for everything when it’s pretty clear he’s the root of the problem. Magnolia letting this abuse happen to her and thinking they’re fated hit too close to home since I’ve been in those power dynamic relationships in the past. This book wasn’t cute or fun, but it did have some nice quotes and Tom made it bearable. I will not be continuing the series.

what in the british gossip girl shitshow was this …

magnolia describing everyone’s outfits like this was a 2012 wattpad novel annoyed the ever loving shit out of me and her and bj (side note: BJ ????? come on how was i meant to take this seriously) have literally the most destructive, unhealthy relationship that it made me want to stick forks in my eyes

… despite this … i was entertained (and extremely pissed off) for the most part, although this did go on for around 200 pages too long lol

I went into this one not really knowing what to expect. I’ve heard it gives Gossip Girl vibes, but I never got past a few episodes of the show🙈. Since it’s the March pick for a book club I’m in, this is going to be a super mini review. Swipe for a synopsis👉🏽.

What I Loved: The ending 😅. The last 15-20% made it worth reading.

What I didn’t love: A lot of it🙈. This one wasn’t for me. I like a romance where there’s someone to root for & for me this wasn’t that type of romance🥴.

Magnolia Parks is the first book in the Magnolia Parks Universe series by Jessa Hastings. It revolves around Magnolia Parks and BJ Ballantine and their group of friends who live in London. They are all fabulously wealthy high society socialites.

This was a beautiful and heartbreaking story about two people navigating a complicated relationship. There’s gorgeously written passages about how Magnolia and BJ feel about each other. It’s definitely a book where you’ll feel a lot of different emotions. There’s also a nice side setup for the next book with Daisy, Christian, and Julian. I can’t wait to continue this series!

I loved this book so much. I was immediately engage and didn’t get bored once throughout the novel. The characters were perfect and I was obsessed with the messy relationship trope. I will definitely be giving this another read at some point, one of my new top books.

This book is not for everyone. It's for me, though. Less than 20 pages in and I was on the verge of crying. This book broke me. I never thought I needed this book so much, so my rating for this is biased (and mainly influenced by my personal experiences).

A character driven, angst-filled book, it's basically Gossip Girl with Chuck and Blair as the main couple.. but more toxic. I read spoilers before reading this, but I still felt all the pain.

Read this if you're mature enough to understand how toxic Magnolia & BJ are for each other. Read this if you're mature enough to understand you don't want this relationship. Read this if you want to feel seen, especially if you were (or still are) in a very toxic relationship.
