Whirlwind doesn't even begin to cover how the last 20% of this book made me feel. Oh my GOD the PAIN WHY!! I loved this so much, the plot, the twists, the reveals IT WAS SO GOOD. CC NEVER DISAPPOINTS!

I loved this just as much as the first one, honestly I'm so fond of these characters and so truly invested in the drama! Both the main plot drama AND the romantic subplot drama. I seriously loved this so much, I have a habit of dragging out CC books purely because it feels so far between. I just know the next book is a. gonna kill me and b. take me FOREVER to read but i sincerely cannot wait!

PS. Jem, Will and Tessa just arghhhhhhhh <333

i feel like the pacing felt better in this book rather than the previous one. still, i find the characters i could not root for. i found the love triangle set up between james, cordelia and matthew rather odd and forced; i felt like cordelia and matthew were better suited as friends given their past dynamic, and the whole bracelet schtick between grace and james annoyed the heck out of me. at this point i feel like the plot is a bit convoluted from the large amount of characters involved in the book, as well as their respective problems, that i wonder how cassie would wrap up the series through chain of thorns. however due to the lack of characters i could root for, i'm still debating whether i should drop this series altogether or push through.

I wrote a review on the first book in this series (encompassing how I felt about the first and second book) so I won’t repeat it here but I want to mention how intensely frustrating the end of this novel is.

I hope the final book can tie up the Matthew-Cordelia-James love triangle up nicely because I’m am so upset with how the ending of this book played out. There are so many blatant clues that lead to simple answers about who likes who and what may really be going on but the way each character responds to those clues just frustrates me to no end.

I would rather prefer reading about the progression of Thomas and Alistair’s relationship over Cordelia and James because of how much those two characters have frustrated me.

I’m really enjoying this series. Each book’s plot resolves nicely while still adding to the larger series plot arc. I love the large cast of characters and their messy relationships. Plus, I dig a historical fantasy, so the setting really works for me. I think this is Cassandra’s Clare’s best work to date.

And that ENDING.

lines that broke me :
"We have talked so much of travel. I wanted to give you the world"
"How do I live in this moment forever, and not let it go?"
"If I do go, give us a happy ending, will you? in your book?"
"You were always my secret"
"You are my constant star, Daisy"
"We become what we are afraid we will be, Layla"
"But the truth is that sorrow is fleet and loyal. It will always follow you"

But I STILL won't forgive that ending.
