Another day, another book that had me bawling.
This book follows Poppy Maysen, a widow swamped in grief from her husband’s tragic death. In hopes of finally moving on, she decides to complete her husband’s Birthday List consisting of life goals he would have done at different stages of his life. One particular item has her crossing paths with Cole Goodman, the same man who knocked on her door and delivered her that one dreadful news years ago.
Cole takes one look at Poppy and is completely taken by her. He recognizes her as the woman who lost her shine upon knowing of her husband’s passing, but he is clearly more interested in getting to know her beyond that first meeting. He offers to help Poppy in ticking off the Birthday List and the two strike a friendship along the way. The gradual buildup of their friendship towards attraction and love was absolutely beautiful. Each and every item in the list, from the simplest to the most outrageous one, played its crucial part in organically bringing Poppy and Cole together. Poppy had her reservations for good reason but Cole remained determined to break down her walls with so much care and respect.
This couple’s story undoubtedly paints them as true soulmates. I cannot stress enough how satisfying it was watching them recognize and eventually embrace their deep love for each other.
This story also includes a suspense element that leads to the suspect of Poppy’s husband’s murder. This isn’t a thriller book per se but I really enjoyed playing detective as I tried to unravel the crime using the clues strategically sprinkled all throughout the plot. Somehow, the suspense incredibly tied the whole book together even though it wasn’t the main plot of the story.
My only gripe with this lies in the book’s resolution. The story focused more on Cole’s reaction to the climax which highlighted the fact that he was slower in his realizations than Poppy. The ending showed Poppy coming out as more emotionally settled yet it's unfortunate that the story doesn’t show her side of the story during that specific time.
All in all, this was such a wholesome and heartwarming read all about second chances and moving forward in life “minute by minute” with people willing to hold your hand every step of the way. Judging by my puffy eyes after I reached the end, I think it’s safe to say that this book is one well worth recommending.

This book was amazing. So much depth. So well written and plotted. I couldn't believe how some parts played out. It was truly incredible.
