My first Abby Jimenez! Very cute. I enjoyed the love story thoroughly. Untimately it lost stars for me because two people can only not communicate a certain amount before I start banging my head against the wall! I found it so unrealistic that the relationship built on communicating via letters at the beginning would end with the amount of miscommunication that it did.

AAANDDD at the same time I thought the insecurities and past traumas and anxiety were all so well written. I loved that neither MC relied on the other to provide them therapy to get through their hard times and had already done a lot of their own self work.

I loved all the characters, main and supporting. Everyone had a place in the story and it was so nice to feel like you got to get to know everyone in the MCs lives. I also loved the dynamics of sibling caretaking and the weight that puts on someone, while at the same time the recognition that caretaking can only go so far and sometimes people have to do their own work to get better.

So many good feels around how the FMC talks about marriage and relationships in life post divorce. The pain is so clearly depicted, but so are the moments of learning and hope.

I wanted to like this so much more. I did like this so much until the last 20% of the book. It is unfathomable to me that I’m supposed to believe
Alexis AND Amy AND Kelly AND Briana are pregnant at the same time. What’s in the water in this place???
I liked the mental health representation and how this book handled chronic illness but at times it felt like inclusive language and situations were thrown in just to be checked off of some list.

Oh, boy, I thought Briana was hilarious (as the best friend) in the first book!

Briana and Jacob were an electric pair for me. The fake dating/real feelings, the letter-writing, and the way they gave the other exactly what they needed was everything - they are a perfectly matched couple. Jacob’s anxiety was absolutely flawlessly written, but put that with Briana’s trust issues and you have this really realistic couple trying to navigate complex issues and trauma. Briana is able to understand and soothe his anxiety, often before it can even build, while Jacob makes her feel safe and trusting after being abandoned by her father and cheated on by her husband (with her friend, yikes).

Jacob is so pure - protect him at all costs! He is so soft and sweet with Briana and the way they promise to be harmless to one another is beautiful and so memorable.

I almost forgot that he freakin DONATED HIS KIDNEY to save her brother and Briana agreed to fakedate him for his brother’s wedding to his ex. This added such textured layers to the story of Jacob not knowing if her kindness/interest was out of obligation for his generosity and Briana not knowing if he was still in love with his ex (and soon-to-be sister in-law). This made any miscommunication pretty justified to me and kept the stakes high.

“If you’re with someone who doesn’t speak your language, you’ll spend a lifetime having to translate your soul… Briana’s different. She understands you, even when you don’t say anything at all.”
^ Love this. Soulmates don’t need their love to be translated.

Also…
“And just so you know, there is no greater show of love than someone bringing you food without being told.”
Facts.

This books was so beautiful I found myself crying at some points because wow. It was very well written with lovable characters, good plot, good chemistry and good banter.
The anxiety rep with Jacob is really what got me, I felt so seen. I’ve never been formally diagnosed with anything so whenever I do little things like googling a restaurant before going out to eat with friends so I’m less uncomfortable and more at ease when I get there, I don’t think too much about it. Just me being me. Seeing something as small as that in a book really touched the heart strings and made me understand Jacob as a character.
Brianna my Queen. She was such a great side character in Part of your world that seeing her get her happily ever after with Jacob in this book really was so beautiful because girl has been through a LOT, damn Abby.
These two just work and their connection just makes sense and the journey was not easy but it sure as hell was a good one to read about😂.

That being said, the miscommunication, or rather lack of communication was a bit hard to get through at times. I had to read this on kindle majority of the time so wouldn’t get violent with the pages, there was so many moments when I just sat there thinking “If they just talked we would have saved 50 pages of this mental turmoil” because it really did become a broken record of “is this real? Would she love me if…? Does he really love me?” And while I totally understand why they both felt this way and couldn’t just ask the questions to each other instead of LEAPING to conclusions (I’m looking at you Bri), it was still a bit of a drag to read about considering I REALLY enjoyed seeing them just be a couple and wanted to read more of that rather than the continuous spirals.
That alone is the reason this wasn’t 5 stars for me, I even enjoyed the mention of tiktok, which normally despise in books😂.
