I cannot stress enough that romance is not my genre of choice and never will be. If I'm honest, I only picked this book at all because I was offered a free copy. Turns out I'm glad I gave it a chance, though. I really loved the characters, and the author's depictions of anxiety and abandonment issues were spot-on. I was irritated with the complete lack of communication by the last third of the book, because "miscommunication but let's not ever talk about it and just keep spiraling" is maybe my least favorite trope after "he's an asshole but I love him anyway." Overall, though, the book was really cute and sweet and hopeful and I loved that about it. I definitely enjoyed this much more than I expected to.

This book had me in my honey nut feelios. It was so funny at times and such a heart warming way of showing love in the small moments, in showing up for one another and making what the other one finds hard easier.

If I read this non-critically, head empty, no-thoughts-just-vibes-kinda-way then I loved it! I thought it was sooo cute and Jacob is literal perfection I want 7000 copies of him. Also his anxiety was sooo relatable sometimes it was hilarious. It’s such a cute book and I loved how well the plot progressed and same with the characters and their love story. Thought it started out slow but picked up and I found myself giggling and kicking my feet lmaoooo.
If I read it from a critical standpoint, head full, thoughts over flowing: I still liked it but there was a lot that could’ve been improved. The writing sometimes felt super Wattpad-y like “and then this happened and then this and then that” and then other times I really enjoyed the metaphors and analogies. Also I kinda sorta  REALLY hated the last 100ish pages, I thought it went by way too fast, it tied in some things that were sprinkled in throughout the book but didn’t make it a major plot point until the end of the book and at that point I’m like “????????”
because she gets everything she wanted. He changed his last name, got over his anxiety to move for her, quit his job to be a stay at home dad, etc. etc. it just seemed like he was giving up so much all because she had trauma that she needed to deal with. And he kinda just allowed her everything which imho I think made it worse for me because she doesn’t have to give anything up for him. He’s like the sacrificial lamb. What I wish happened was that they went to therapy and worked through her unresolved trauma together and compromised not just her having everything her way. Idk why that irked me, it just felt super unrealistic and albeit the whole book is at point, it just got wildly unrealistic to the point of fantasy at that point and made Jacob’s character diminish (idk if that’s the right word) in my eyes.

I really wish she fleshed out the ending a bit more and didn’t just jam pack everything at the end. I get that it’s supposed to be a rom com and rom coms are usually unrealistic but idk…Also all their fights were resolved within 2 seconds, whereas the build up was like, several chapters long.

Absolutely loved it. Abby Jimenez is a fantastic author. She writes very real, 3 dimensional characters and storylines. Jacob is probably my favorite lead male in a romance novel, I resonated with him so much. Hes basically the male version of me- an anxious, overthinking mess, who ultimately means well and wants to take care of those he loves. Seeing anxiety represented in literature in such a real, honest, authentic way, was so comforting. I really loved Part of Your World but I loved this book even more. She does an incredible job of writing from the heart, taking issues she has faced in life and turning them into something that has the power to heal others. I never feel alone reading one of her books and that is such a gift. If you want to laugh, cry, and feel connected to the world around you, give this book a try.

It is a very slow-burn romance. A little too slow-burn in my opinion.

Loved the depiction of someone with anxiety.
I hate the unplanned pregnancy troupe. I should have seen it coming with jokes about baby names and her saying she never throws up but I normally avoid books with an unplanned pregnancy so I did not expect it. If you’re into that, you’ll probably like the end more than I did.
