Thank you Rae for the recommendation. It's giving Pet Semetary if everyone was queer. Great mix of folk story with magical realism with horror. Very spooky and offputting vibes which is hard to pull off so I appreciated this.
I think I was generous with the rating because it was a cool concept. The writing was not superb and the use of the 4 different perspectives really didn't feel that effective to me because there wasn't even that much new information revealed in each and none of the characters had a distinct voice. I also liked the horror part of the book more than its discussion of grief - I think the book tried to portray the different ways people cope with grief but the execution didn't quite make it come alive.
