A strange story that makes one meditate on grief and love.
I enjoyed the first third of the novel where the reader gets to sit with the thoughts of a mother dealing with the tragic loss of her son and, in her desperation, the beginnings of a horror story with a gruesome monster front and center.
However, the book lost me a bit when we move into the future and the book changes tonally. There were parts that I liked but just not enough for me to be wowed like, it seems, the majority of other readers were.

I thought this was just a story about a grieving mother but it ended up being much more than that. I felt apart of the family by the end. Everyone felt very 3 dimensional. I cried at the end!!!
(4.5) insane prose. lost me a little bit in the last section. overall dope.
Loved every single second of this. A lot gayer than I expected. It also low key had one of my all time favorite themes of romantic cannibalism, in a way which was truly just the sweetest juiciest cherry on top of a novel I was already becoming obsessed with. This is the kind of book that feels like it was made for me tbh god bless

Achingly beautiful and painful. A great depiction of how physical loss is; how unbelievable and unmanageable grief is. The book did not judge its flawed characters nor did it try to excuse actions made by them.
It was depicted in 4 parts over time, so you were going through a journey with each character. The writing was amazing. The story unique and unexpected. Still, it is definitely a book I will reread.
