God I love a monster book. Loved the lucid style of the writing and the POV switches, the willingness to make M truly dangerous and disgusting. A book that doesn't flinch.

So I think, from the reviews the story is about grief and love. There was little grief (especially given how much death there is), a little love (two characters prepare to get married but their relationship is one of the least developed in the whole book). To me it reflected more the selfish nature of people.

This was so, so good! Really thrilling, felt exactly like beginning to unravel a family secret and the feeling of opening the proverbial closet in slow motion in the dark. Fascinating work here, really beautifully written, wrenches your heart in twain while making you look over your shoulder. Wow!!!
