The reworking of the phantom of the opera story was one of my favorite parts of this. Seeing all of the nods to the musical was fun.
It was a fantasy retelling that had a lot of dark elements that are revealed as the story goes .

This book was really solid 4 star material up until the end. Great writing, a well-developed world, creatively spun intrigue, and a romance to die for all fell flat for me with the unnecessary ending. Not only was it sad, but it made me feel like the time I spent reading the rest of the book was wasted :(

Note: I havenโ€™t seen the original Phantom of the Opera, but after some research I understand that the ending of this retelling mirrors the original one, which makes this more understandable. Solely for that, Iโ€™m bumping the book up from 2 to 3 stars because I suppose I canโ€™t critique a retelling for sticking to the original plot. :โ€)

๐Ÿ“š SING ME FORGOTTEN is a gender-swapped retelling of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA with a magical world layered in.
๐Ÿ“š I absolutely tore through it despite never having seen or listened to PHANTOM - Isda and Emeric's stories are so compelling.
๐Ÿ“š I loved how music and memory were at play in this story, and how precious both those things were to the main characters, if for different reasons.
๐Ÿ“š Though the world was built out enough to serve the story, I would have loved to see more of the country (a fictionalized version of France) and how fendoirs and the elixir market worked in everyday life.
