I honestly feel like I got lost in the text a lot, the scrambled nature didn’t appeal to me as much as I wished it would. I knew the basic premise of the story prior to my read, which may have been the result of my interest in the plot. I recognize the cultural and social critique and can understand why some love it so much. Fight Club just wasn’t for me. Reading it was not a mistake, I am happy I did.

“I wanted to destroy everything beautiful I’d never have.”
In the afterword, the author describes the countless interpretations that have been presented to him since this book’s publication. He seems to deny any deeper meaning, but whether it’s a satire, an allegory, or a genuine nihilist manifesto, I really enjoyed this book. It shows the worst of humanity, how capitalism has driven us to dig deeper than rock bottom just to feel individual. I’m really intrigued by Chuck’s writing style — very “talk now, explain later” in a way that kept me super engaged. What a wonderfully thoughtful, quick read to help get me back into reading consistently.

I read this book many years ago and I was excited we were reading it for bookclub. We have a few members who have never seen the movie or read the book so I was excited to see their first time with this story. This is one of those stories I wish I could experience for the first time again. I love Palahniuk's writing style. He's been one of my favorite authors for years! In the 'afterword' he mentions cutting the story but to still keep the audience on track and engaged. Don't skip the afterword! It truly ties everything together, especially if you think to yourself "how the heck did we get here?".
Still a 5 star read.

Watching the movie before reading the book didn’t ruin it at all for me. It’s a story that will keep me thinking for a long time.
