The writing style threw me off at first, but once I adjusted to it, I really started to enjoy this darkly comic descent into madness. I will still stand by the film adaptation being better overall, but David Fincher also happens to be my favorite living director, so I’ll always be slightly biased in that regard. I cant help but think going into this novel without seeing the film first would have made me like it more, but it was still a fun experience. This was also my first time reading anything by Chuck Palahniuk and I’m definitely interested in checking out some of his other work. 3.7/5

I had seen the movie years ago, so there weren’t many (any) surprises, but I was still pleasantly surprised to read this book.
It’s shocking to see how many phrases and ideas have entered our culture from this book. It really summed up the late 90s and paved the way for the post-9/11 world. At least the nihilist world that didn’t give a fuck about Goop’s vagina candle or war for oil jingoism.
Compared to the ridiculous current gamergate/sigma mindset/manosphere culture, this is almost wholesome in its purity and sincerity.
I think this book is destined to be a classic.

wish I’d read the book before I’d seen the film because I already knew the plot which I think made it less impactful, but still just suchhh a good story and perfectly delivered
i get it but maybe i just hate men…
it’s rare that a book pisses me off so much i rate it lower than i think it technically deserves. read this for a class lol….
i think what irritated me so much reading this was how deeply dissociative and nihilistic the scope of this book is. i believe that's also what makes it so popular in some ways, but i struggle to read books where the both the central character/s and narrative structure fail to recognize what exactly they're raging against, or moreso why their problems actually exist. And maybe even more than that knowing the incelish negative impact this book has on men who read it. i think it was also how gritty and gross the writing style was, which doesn't always put me off a book... i read gritty and gross novels.... but it did in this case!!!!!
i would totally read another book from palahnuik tho.

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood books of all time, by both those who love it and those who hate it. I hate to use the cliche “this is a book that makes you think” line here but honestly I think one of the marks of great art is that it many people can experience it and come to different conclusions. There are right ways and wrong ways to look at this thing but at the same time there is no one right way to interpret it. A very dense and challenging read that everyone should experience.
Maybe we're far enough away from the 90s to be able to read this on its own terms rather than as a pop culture artifact. Fincher was 100% faithful to 90% of the book. Don't make of the mistake of thinking that this is a book about mental illness--that's just a device. But it's still interesting, well-written, and provocative for its time.

In some way this feels like a batman and joker back story, except they’re both the same person. i love the shit talk about capitalism though.
originally gave this 4.5 but then couldn’t stop thinking about it i didn’t expect to like this so much
I wish I’d read this book knowing nothing about it, can’t untwist a twist once you know the twist even if you watched the movie 5 years ago
