As icons of Masculine Lit go, Palahniuk is, if nothing else, funnier than Hemingway. The 2006 Vintage paperback edition is worth getting for the author's Afterword, in which he describes the novel's creation, publication, and legacy. I love the anecdote he supplies in response to the book's reputation for getting boys and men reading novels at all. CP is on a Haunted Tunnel Tour. The young male guide jokes to him, out of the blue (I'm paraphrasing):
'The first rule of Haunted Tunnel Club is that you do not talk about Haunted Tunnel Club'.
'I wrote that book'.

So, I’m really late to the party with this, but fight club isn’t what I was expecting. I’ve never seen the movie or actually heard anyone talk about it other than ‘the first rule…’, so I had nothing to go off of. I didn’t even read the synopsis before reading it. All that said, I didn’t love it or hate it. I’m pretty neutral on it. I like his writing style, but I wasn’t really grabbed by the material in the one. I get why people like it though.
