This was selected as BOTM (Book of the Month) in the Goodreads Group "Crime Detective Mystery Thriller Group" of which I am a member.
It is also the first on this list: Next Gone girl (8 books to read after Gone Girl).
Not having read Gone Girl yet, it is on my ever growing virtual (ebook) bought-TBR-pile, I know a few things about Gone Girl, and having read one of the other 2 Gillian Flynn books, [b:Dark Places|5886881|Dark Places|Gillian Flynn|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1354988288s/5886881.jpg|6873353], I think, it bears more of a resemblance to that book, than to Gone Girl.
This is probably a standalone, most of the suspense in the book comes from the question did she or did she not, which will be solved in the end.
The heroine is Janie, and I like her account and her style of speaking.
The book is a bit too long imho, only picking up suspense and speed later in the book (although you could also say, suspense drops of early and never picks up really). The who-dunnit and the why-dunnit is what saves the book in the end from getting 3 stars. And I did not guess who was the killer.
Recommended to those who liked Dark Places and those who like the musings of a former IT-Girl.
I will certainly watch for other books by Elizabeth Little, like her style.

I got a strong Gone Girl vibe from this book. The protagonist is fiesty, independent and a bit of a bitch. The plot kept me guessing and was pretty entertaining, with well developed characters and and a memorable story-line. There were times throughout the novel when I was uncomfortable though, and I have a massive love-hate relationship with the MC.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book.

This was great. I don’t think I like the ending, but it did shock me (the actual ending, not the reveal)

Had me hooked all the way through, rooting both for and against the protagonist; however, the ending let it down a little for me. I prefer solid, conclusive finishes rather than things left uncertain.

Ho hum. Another nasty, unlikable protagonist who may or may not be guilty. Another cast of characters, none of whom is who they seem. If you've read Gone Girl you've read the best of this type.
