An interesting concept with poor execution. There's barely a plot and like the title suggests much of the story is just one damned thing happening after another. Max is a dull character and the other cast of characters are equally dull that they recede so far into the background and blend together.

Where to start? There is so much to say about this book, so many great things!

This story is one of the best I have read in a long while. Everything about it makes it a superb novel. The characters are incredibly well written, Max is superb in all her strange quirkiness. The foreshadowing found in it gives it just the right touch of trepidation, and sometimes dread, at what is coming. The action is engaging and makes one really want to know what happens next. The historical facts combined with the time-travel, and the tiny bit of mythic, so very well rendered. Yes, there is sometimes the odd paradox (TB2! Oh my Goddess!) but it's not too far out there to actually give one a headache trying to understand it. (Think Doctor Who but with lots of tea and slightly less chaotic commotions). And the little scattering of humor here and there gave a much needed lightheartedness in sometimes very dreary scenarios.

Much is not explained, some aspects barely brushed upon with a bit of hints of what is to come. A bit of a cliffhanger but not enough to have me foam at the mouth (yes, I'm not big on cliffhangers. Hate them with a passion).

Certainly, a novel I would recommend even to those who are not much into this sort of genre.

This is one of those perplexing books that I thought I was enjoying as I was listening to it, but somewhere towards the end I started to wonder whether I had missed something in the furious onslaught of words and action. The attempted rape and the consensual sex scene were out of sync with the rest of the story, did not add anything, nor were they characteristic of the individuals' behavior in the rest of the book. Once I started reading other reviews, I realized how many of the criticisms rang true, though my popcorn-loving brain ignored them while I was immersed in the story.

A historian is recruited to work at a mysterious institution which turns out to have a series of time machines that it uses to research events where knowledge is patchy or contentious; nothing can be left behind in the past, nothing can be brought out of the past. But then there's a plot involving people from the future...

A light-hearted time travelling adventure, it is very pacey and has a lot of action going on (the title is apt, it is really one thing after another in this book). As time travel often goes, it gets a bit complex with the time line, but it is not too tricky to understand. There are a couple of darker themes of sexual assault and miscarriage at times in the plot, but nothing is explored too deeply, more like devices to explain actions and reactions by characters.

So many people have praised this book for me, but it was mostly ”meh”. This is mainly vibes, the vague plot only starts in the last third of the book. And the tone is inconsistent. The author hasn’t been able to decide whether to write a fun time travel romp or a serious and tragic story and the tragic parts just feel off.
