I was all in for about 450 pages, and then it went from Connie Willis fanfic to plagiarism and I got annoyed. It’s only a few points but they are pretty key points, so consider this Willis meets The Librarians. It’s fun but FULL of holes and paradoxes and needed a better editor. And I’ll still download book 2, in hopes that having gotten this episodic, not very original, slapdash set up done Taylor will use her creativity and voice to tell a stronger second story.

Historians, dinosaurs, trauma, traveling in time and space all while in the non disclosed future. What's not to love! Honestly, it's a great start, especially since I know it only gets better and also worse from here for our main cast.

Lightweight, entertaining, but sometimes confusing and rushed. Not sure if it was an issue of storytelling or bad editing, but I often would read something and think “wait, what? When did that happen?” Easiest example is that there’s a point in the story that I thought was maybe 6 - 12 months from the start of the book, but the protagonist alludes to the fact that many years have passed, which completely threw me for a loop.
