Madeleine Maxwell, an historian, is suggested for a position at St. Mary’s Priory, Institute of Historical Research, by her former school headmistress. She goes for the interview and finds that not all is as it seems at St. Mary’s Priory. Having taken the position she joins St Mary’s rigorous training programme at the end of which she gets the job, and a whole new life. And it is certainly eventful.
There are dinosaurs and explosions. And the great library at Alexandria burning down. With time-travel, adventure, gun fights, and a great dollop of humour the story starts slowly and picks up the pace until the aforesaid dinosaurs, explosions and burning libraries pull the story to its end at a great speed. I really liked this e-book. There were minor editing errors – misspellings mainly – but nothing to distract greatly from the plot.

I unfortunately was not a big fan of this. It just kind of bored me and I kept wondering when it was going to end, which is odd for such an action packed book. I found it a little difficult to follow time in it, and the characters were all a little indistinct. It does seem very popular so maybe it's just not a book meant for me.
I will say the audiobook reader is drastically dull, which I don't think helped it at all.

History and time travel, what is there not to like here?
Evidently, quite a lot. I really couldn't get on with the characters. The main character, Maxwell, was ok at the start, I liked her sarcastic and feisty attitude, but after a while it just got annoying.
I did not like the and slightly unneeded sexualised scenes and the plot did not hold my interest so I ended up skipping about half way.

I won this book through a goodreads giveaway.
I don't have much to say on it. It was a quick paced, fun read. I found it a little long to my liking, and if I had more books I haven't read I don't know if I would have finished it. I did, because I had nothing better to do.
The author is imaginative, and being a history buff myself, I got a kick out of some of the things I recognized.

Pretty good overall but felt a bit disjointed and rushed in some places. There's a paragraph where the MC mentions it's been five years since she joined St Mary's but you don't get any impression from the story that it's been anywhere near that long.

Definitely a fast-paced, humorous read. But there's not much in the way of character development (we only know character traits because the main character tells us what to think about everybody), or world building here. The main character is involved in about half a dozen missions, almost dies as many times, the company is in ruin a few times, the main character (who is barely above trainee status) hatches no less than two plans to completely overhaul the revenue stream for the business, mysterious bad guys are trying to kill everybody at every turn, mysterious good guys are from the future trying to save the company (which is super important to the human race??), and something about a "goddess of history" at the very end. Good lord! And keep in mind that all of this happens in the span of maybe a year and in just over 300 pages!
The author really should have pared this story down to a couple of missions and took her time to revel in the scenery of the historical locations. I think back to Michael Crichton's "Timeline" with fond memories of what it must have been like to live in the middle ages. This book was in the age of the dinosaurs at one point; and I only remember that it was hot and humid. They do talk about the dinosaurs in a business presentation weeks after the mission. But during the three months of the actual mission, there's hardly any detail at all. What a waste of an awesome location!
It sounds like I hated this book, but I really didn't. It is a fun read. I was very interested to see how things ended up all the way through to the end too. I just felt like I could have REALLY dug into this story had the approach been different. Each time the plot moved onto a new event, I felt cheated of something greater. And that's the real crime here. Not that it's a bad story, but that it could have been a great one.
