Enjoyed every moment, I was on the edge of my seat along with the characters at multiple moments.
The character interactions are well-written and various morals and thoughts are explored well through them without being pandering or being out of character. Read by Cecil Baldwin, it's even more electrifying and engaging.

Read in part for the Horror Aficionado's 2021 Halloween Season Reading Challenge - Monster

I thought I had read all the Night Vale Books, but nope. I missed this one. I am going into this book with much more knowledge of Night Vale and the characters since I read the first book in the series. I am a dedicated Welcome to Night Vale podcast listener. These books make much more sense if you have a basic knowledge of Night Vale.

I loved how we saw a darker side of some of our characters, specifically Carlos.

This novel encapsulates so much of what first endeared the sleepy desert town of Night Vale to me. It is funny and clever and bizarre and truly heartfelt, and it even manages to tackle such weighty concepts as truth and belief in science and religion in a way that is not only accessible but also disarmingly honest. It was a quick, joyful read and I'd highly recommend it.

“Take any person from Night Vale, and try to convince them of mountains. (…)
Be cruel or kind. Reveal more than you should. Tell them anything you like.
It doesn’t matter. They wont believe you anyway.”

I would say this is definitely my favorite Welcome to Night Vale book, but the truth is I say the same thing about all Night Vale books when I read them. This friendly desert community brings me unmeasurable joy whether it’s the books or the podcast or anything else even remotely related to it. It may not be the best piece of literature ever written and maybe the metaphor is too obvious but it makes me so happy that I don’t care about this kind of technicalities!!! :)
