I have grown to appreciate this book more with time. When I first read the series (which at that time consisted of three books), it was my least favorite. I think I may have been putting off by its darker elements, being only 11 at the time. Then I reread the first three or four books (way too many times) and realized that it was just as good as the others. In fact, I think this is where J.K. Rowling really hits her stride with humor. Ron comes into his own as the skeptical, sarcastic member of the trio, and Gilderoy Lockhart is excellent comic relief.
