Entertaining in that vapid "Sex in the City" way.

I read this book as a fan of Carole Radziwill's writing, having previously read her other book recently. I enjoyed this book very much and actually imagined Carole as the main character and heard her voice in my head while reading it. For the record, I imagined George Clooney as the LA guy. This is a fun read even though it deals with death and grief.

a seriously funny book about death, sex & love. so much fun to read.

This was terrible! I read the first half and couldn't take it anymore so I skipped ahead and read the end but I'm counting it as "read" because I feel deserve it for the time I wasted on it. The main character is absolutely horrible, wishy-washy, unlikable, and unrealistic, as is every other character in the book. What a waste of paper! I read Carole Radziwill's memoir and it was great, so the woman can write, but maybe nonfiction is more her thing.
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

I actually really liked Carole’s way of writing on this which is light and fluffy as compared to her normal rush of her journalism. I also loved that I could picture Claire as Carole’s twin and put her voice on Claire as well. Well done.

“It's the oldest trick in the book, that's all I'm saying. You get pregnant, or more likely, say you are, you land the guy or at least get his attention. It's a desperate move, but girls do it because, guess what, it works.”

+ i really enjoyed this book! of course it leaned more towards adults than young adults but it was actually a good read. i was also annotating this while reading so somehow, i managed to understand the content, contexts, and plots much better. it took me a while to finish obviously, but it didn't destroy the whole experience. it didn't felt like i was studying the book/characters.

+ claire definitely felt like my new friend. there were times were i just wanted to give her a hug, or maybe slap some senses into her. im really happy with her progress throughout each chapters though. and im glad that she knows her worth in the end.

+ i do have to say this though: charlie, claire's husband, definitely loves/loved her. despite all the screwing around. they both do actually. they both love each other but in their own stupid way. sure they haven't had sex in such a long time, but charlie still cared for claire, even though he was fucking some other woman behind her back. if claire knew about it, and didn't confronted him about it, i don't think it's a problem at all. she knew. and she even decided to have sex with another man, but she couldn't. so am i saying that both of them are in the wrong for claire's eventual behaviour to date men, have sex and “be happy”? absolutely not. it's both of their own respective choices. this doesn't make sense but yeah.

+i did NOT expect that ending after all! i genuinely thought she would be with jack, but nope. it's with another guy. happily dating. and he's sweet so i can tell that she's really in love with this guy.

+it absolutely toned down my expectations on dating men from new york lmao. it's not all that great after all. but the vibes are still immaculate, if you know what you're doing.

+ i was definitely hoping for more of claire to “seek her true destiny” and whatnot but ehhh. if it's a dick what she wants, she can have it. she made progress along the way. small, but it's still there.

I really enjoyed Carole Radziwill's memoir when I read it years ago, so I had high hopes when I found out she was writing a novel (embarrassing disclosure here: I also watch her on the Real Housewives and love her). The first half of this book was kind of terrible. Characters I didn't care about doing and saying things I didn't believe. Bad. But I stuck with it, in part because I'm a finisher, in part because it is a quick read, in part because I heart Carole. And I will admit the the second half of the book was better and the ending was charming. So 3 stars. But a tough 3 stars.

I like Carole Radziwill. I liked her writing in this book. It was funny and light hearted. I thought the main character was a bit whiny but she made the best of her situation. The story, though, got really confusing for me towards the end. It took time to figure out who or what was doing what. I am hoping though, that Ms. Radziwill will be writing more. I'm a fan.

It was fine
