- WOW, that was an adventure! I did not expect this book to go the direction it did, but I kinda liked it.
- The beginning and ending were very solid. I liked the addition of the parallel storyline of
Will's mother . It added an edge to the story that I really liked. Especially since you know the whole ordeal ofher believing Will killed Tam was a set-up for some high internal and external drama , but I feel like it wasn't explored to full capacity. - I find it annoying that the author's idea of character development is to put these children through the most horrible trauma imaginable and then let them flounder in this horrible place underground hopeless, hungry, and afraid.
- Also, I think Drake and Eliott make too much sense as the protectors and I feel like they weren't developed enough. We only got bits and pieces of their backstory. They felt more like tools to
help the boys survive the deeps, which makes sense. They wouldn't have on their own, but the details imply they're more than that..There's mentions of a whole entire web of rebels and outcasts in the Deeps. But we never see or hear from any of them . - I think the development of Will and Chester's relationship made sense. I'm glad Chester got his moment to just rage at Will. I'm still annoyed at Will and his innability to recognize how his denial of faults and consequences brought him and the ones he claims to love to this point.
Overall conclusion:
It begins and ends very strongly. The middle feels boring and dragging, not helped by the too-wordy writing. I think the cliffhanger presents some very fascinating possibilities so I'll read the next book.

Tarde muchísimo leyendo el libro y pero es muy bueno, claro, tengo ciertos puntos que...bueno hacen que le dé 4 estrellas.
Quiero empezar directamente con Sarah porque, dios, que personaje tan más aburrido, sus capítulos fueron una tortura para mí; tengo claro que el tipo de libro hace que sea en su mayoría descriptivo pero cuando ella aparecía era DEMASIADO, llegó a pasar que me daba mucho sueño y tenía que parar de leer cada que se cruzaba ella porque me aburría muchísimo. De hecho su único aporte importante y que me tuvo por primera y única ocasión picada fue de los capítulos finales, hasta grité "¡hasta que por fin hace algo!".
Drake, desde que apareció me pareció un personaje demasiado interesante y de hecho lo es, me sentí picada a leer cada que aparecía.
Cal, tuve un amor-odio con él en el primer libro, no lo soporté, aquí al inicio fue lo mismo pero conforme avance fui comprendiendolo, tuvo un buen desarrollo. Ahora Chester, dios, todo lo que sentí con él en el primer libro se fue a la basura en este segundo, lo odié muchísimo, haber, entiendo porque estaba molesto con Will pero dios no era ninguna justificación con su actuar, lo tendré en la mira en el siguiente libro.
Will, qué puedo decir, desde el primer libro le tengo cariño y en este segundo solo me hizo pensar el querer protegerlo y llevarlo directo con su padre, realmente tuve una montaña de emociones con él, y el final pudo haberme destruido de no ser porque el adelanto a Caída libre estaba en el libro, así que eso me hace creer, ajá, que él estará mejor.
En general es un libro un tanto pesadito y si puede ser muy aburrido para los ojos y perspectivas que no están acostumbrados a este tipo de lecturas, pero realmente es una gran obra, todo esté mundo, descripciones y personajes son increíbles y bueno...no puedo esperar a leer el siguiente libro.

I enjoyed Deeper much more than its predecessor Tunnels. Although, as others have mentioned, the character develop is somewhat wanting, the authors do flesh out the characters more in this second volume. The landscape and the Styx's (ruling class of the underground society in the novel conspiring to kill all surface-dwelling "Topsoilers") conspiracy is much more imaginative, and the second volume is also much more exciting, with the action/adventure pace building to a fever-pitch cliffhanger that leaves the reader waiting for the next installment.
This one has hooked me into the series now, I want to know more about the ancient civilisation underground...I suspect there were more genteel people before the Styx. The adult characters are more engaging than the main characters though.
Same as before: Interesting concept, but kinda slow and boring in execution. I guess it's because I'm a bit too old for these books, I surely would've loved it as a kid.
