The Litigators

This book was ok. Seemed to take forever to read and moved slowly. I wished I had more details at some points and less details in others.

I love endings that end with everything all neatly wrapped up. It's always good to have a happy ending!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was funny. It was also real. Each of the characters came across as actual people and not fictionalized representations of people; which is probably why it was funny. There were serious moments, ""have mercy" moments and "really?"
It tells the story of David Zinc, a burned out big firm lawyer (like 500 lawyers big) who literally runs from his job, spends the day drinking and actually stumbles into the law office of Oscar Finley and Wallis Figg. These two are like the Odd Couple. They know they tickled me. Anyway, Finley and Figg are a couple of small time lawyers getting by on car wrecks whose secretary, Rochelle, is primarily there so she won't sue them for malpractice. David is reluctantly allowed to join. The following events are sometimes predictable, but the journey is quite interesting.
The characters are all interesting, and by the end of the book I felt like I knew them. Very well written. I look forward to reading more from John Grisham.

I just didn't enjoy this as much as the other Grishams I've read. It lacked the pace and intrigue that I'm used to and the story just wasn't that gripping or interesting. Unfortunately it was all a little predictable really.

It's been many years since I picked you a John Grisham novel and I had forgotten how entertaining they could be. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, which had a much lighter tone than some of his old classics (like The Client and A Time To Kill).

ugh, grisham has definitely lost his ability to write a gripping legal tale.

3.5 stars. The characters were delightfully flawed.

Another good Grisham read, however it suffers from a rather underwhelming ending.

I will not be in a hurry to pick up another Grisham novel. I did like the character complexity in Calico Joe but did not find the characters all that interesting in the Litigators. The plot was not all that riveting and the dialog tended towards pretty pathetic at times. What's the appeal?

2.5 stars
I read this after reading the excellent Adam Mitzner books and was a bit let down. In fact, I think this will be my last Grisham. I have read two (this and 'The Broker') and was neither particularly interested nor particularly impressed by the story or the writing. 'The Litigators' is rather boring, which is my main critique. The characters are bland, though Grisham does try to make them memorable, they just didn't intrigue me at all. The story is decently crafted, but not all that unpredictably nor very engaging. If this review sounds a bit blah, neither here nor there, it's only a reflection of how I felt about the book. I hate giving bad reviews because I know the huge effort that goes into constructing a novel, but this just wasn't for me, I'm afraid.
