The humor made this book so so good!! I wanted to rate it higher because I really enjoyed it but the book didn’t feel developed enough in the plot lines. I feel like the book ended right as it was getting good. Really excited for the next book in the series.

I honestly wasn’t a huge fan of this book. The pace rushed at times and slow other times. The world building was hard to follow to the point it was confusing. Don’t get me started on the toilet humor - it felt like this book was written by a middle schooler at times. I gave it a couple stars because I think the characters were pretty well written in their unique characteristics and the plot was fairly decent despite being based on a hp fanfic. Overall would I recommend the book? Nah. But I’ve read worse.

Well this one is tough to review. There are a few things going on here.
First, this one has been billed as being “for the Dramione girlies” and while we all loved the fic and we KNEW it would be different (and that’s ok, that’s good!) I don’t really see the Dramione appeal? Why? Because they’re “enemies to lovers?” Sure, I guess? The vibe of the fic comes through? Magical systems? Nah. Let’s break it down…
Enemies to lovers: Sure, it’s there. They hate each other. But the characterization is written in a way that makes both of them completely unlikable, and not in a way where we get some redeeming qualities coming out as we go. We have bland Aurienne and for-sure-needs-therapy Osric. I think she was supposed to come off as a “perfectionist who likes things orderly” but honestly she came off as cold and boring. Even during a scene in which she is supposed to be showing warmth by hugging one of the kids she’s healing she is so rigid and unlikable. Osric has a bit more depth when you see the softer sides of him and we get a very small “he fell first” vibe but honestly it would be very easy to write this off as he’s just a lonely person who is for once getting semi-positive attention, and that doesn’t even happen until we’re about 90% into the book.
The vibe: I think the whole thing was supposed to be clever, fun, and full of banter. It came off as too disjointed when every other word felt as if it was found deep in a dictionary. Genuinely, I loved my SAT prep vocab tests as much as the next gal but it was too much. Their banter was not fun, mostly because it was constant. So many sexual innuendos. So dull. The sentences were short and jarring and our author had a tendency to capitalize words for emphasis much like one may do while writing text messages. I found that it took me out of the story consistently and was a bit Too Much. (That being said, I did read an ARC so perhaps this is changed with an editor.)
The world building and magical systems are lacking. There is talk of a war and boundaries but not much background on anything. The back of the book gives some information on the Orders, and there is a map but without that the novel doesn’t bring in much context at all. We have an issue of needing to heal Osric which is the main point throughout, and then that sort of falls away randomly to open up a new much bigger problem.
I did love their deofol, and I enjoyed seeing the softer sides of Osric but overall I found the entire thing to be disappointing. I wanted a romantasy, I wanted a kissing book with some clever banter that makes me smirk. Honestly I would have been fine without all of that. If we got a detailed world, magic system, and friendships I’d have been thrilled. This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2025 and I’m sad that I found it to be poorly written and dull. I’d give it a 2.5/5 rating.

Incredibly written dialogue - I could listen to Osric narrate paint drying and still chuckle. Very cheeky dark humor that is an absolute pleasure to read.
