Holy crap this novel was a rollercoaster! The narrator (XE Sands) is an incredible performer and did amazing at adding to the mystery and drama that Sarah Gailey penned.

I was a bit caught off guard by how abrupt the ending felt. I still feel like I have a few unanswered questions about the magic systems. Technical questions on my part, sure, but I for one found it a tiny bit distracting.

I really liked this book.   Even though I guessed some of the twists, I thought it was cleverly written.  I really liked the protagonist's voice, and her ability to imagine herself in different timelines felt very genuine.
I almost expected it to turn out that it was a kind of magic that she was doing, to so fully inhabit the alternate timeline characters.

The characters were interesting and as were the ways the high school was both magical and utterly ordinary.  Ivy's resentment at the wasted magic was understandable, as was the student's "waste" of magic because they're just kids and it's common for them, not the extraordinary thing it is for Ivy.

It was a very well built world.  I'd like to spend more time there.

Christ. This was so much better than I expected it today. I see you, foreshadowing. I see you.

I got so invested in this story so fast! Ivy is a funny and sympathetic narrator, and the mystery was juuuuust the right level of difficulty. I couldn't figure it all out on my own, but I might have if I had taken notes. But it's not just a mystery, it also gave me feelings??

Yeah, it takes place at a boarding school for magical teens, but it's definitely not Harry Potter.

I would have rated it higher, except I feel like it has low reread-value - but the first read was SO fun!!

This was a little disappointing because I was really looking forward to reading the book. The premise was so interesting and I'm always down for a magic school setting. I thought the idea of what real teenagers would do if they had access to magic was really cool, I really liked that they were still teenagers with teenage problems. I think the first two thirds of the book were in the 4-5 star range for me. But then the plot really lost me towards the end. I kind of hated everything about the reveal and the resolution, and I really expected there to be more  dealing with the main character's personal issues. Instead it just felt a bit unresolved.
