Rinn has grown up with tea dragons inhabiting their village, but stumbling across the real dragon turns out to be a completely different experience! Aedhan is a young dragon who was appointed to protect the village, but fell asleep in the forest eighty years ago. Rinn’s adventuring uncle Erik and his partner Hesekiel come to the village at the same time as Aedhan is woken up. There is a mysterious creature in the surrounding forest of Rinn’s village that is putting creatures and folk to sleep, and it is Erik and Hesekiel’s job to find it.

This tea dragon story is a sort of backstory for characters introduced in the previous book. It was just as elegantly done, even with the increase in more mature content. There is violence, depictions of blood, and death. But it is done with soft, gorgeous art and flowing story.

Where solid plot is lacking the beautiful imagery and animated pages make up for it, the book gives peaceful vibes for you as a reader to watch. There’s beautiful deaf representation with characters signing to one another.  Kay O’Neill knocks it out of the park once again

5/5 Stars for this second entry in the Tea Dragon series.
This book takes all of the best components of the first book in the series and adds in more components of the Tea Dragon lore, extends the universe, and shows us more of Hesekiel and Erik's backstory without taking away from the story of childhood friendship that is at the heart of the stories in the series.

Despite following some similar plot and theme beats from the previous book (young person entering the age for apprenticeship, someone who is missing memories after failing a task of great importance, the restoration of memory, etc.) the story still feels fresh, exciting, and different while maintaining the cozy feel the books excel at providing.

The illustrations are gorgeous, the characters are lovable, and the stakes are low which makes for a comforting and relaxed read.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cozy read, to children who love dragons and to those like me who wish that the world was just a little bit more magical.
