I enjoyed the plot and writing. The characters all had very well rounded personalities and had intricate journeys. Which i found impressive as all of them had different perspectives and values.
The conversations of grief, family, racism and black history was all thought provoking and insightful.
I was very much thrown for a curve at the halfway point when the reveal shifts the story and it was very well done.
I will be keeping an eye on this authors!

Enjoyed the first half/first quarter of the book, was caught a little off guard by rhe thriller/twist ending, but still a good read nonetheless. It was interesting to learn that Kezi had survived, but I was devastated to learn what happened to Shaqueria. Mark's character I have no words for, I didnt expect anything (or anyone) like him to be in this story. I did love how everyone's pov chapters weaved together to tell the full story spanning over decades! Also appreciate the touch of having the family trees and cross country map at the back of the book, it helps bring everything together :)
Graphic: Racism, Death, and Drug abuse
Moderate: Police brutality and Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Homophobia
