The last quarter of the book is predictable and reads, for better or worse, like a standard horror movie. For me this was fun and annoying at the same time. No major twists IMO. Also the magic piece got confusing around that point.

idk how she managed to over explain everything and name drop all these people and quote from these fake books yet leave me confused about how the spell actually works… perhaps i am just a dummy. a lot of this book also felt like people going over to each others apartments or calling each other and talking about the same stuff. i think mexican gothic spoiled me.
