This memoir is 100% worth your time.
Maia Kobabe's coming of age journey, beautifully illustrated in this graphic memoir, is full of discovery, acceptance, and love. E is a nonbinary human, figuring eirself out through a world where the very vocabulary for eir identity is still being forged in real time. This book includes a brave vulnerability for which Maia should be proud. If you have or love children, this is an incredibly valuable discussion about growing up.
I was actually surprised with how light it was... How hopeful and humorous each topic was touched upon. Of course the people that want to ban this book perpetuate narratives and hide behind grossly misconstrued lines. Because the real reason they want to ban books is to stifle growth. They are so afraid of that. And in comparison to Maia's bravery, they are so damned small.
