I was excited to read this book as a nonbinary and asexual person, but it did not hold up to expectation. The storytelling was all over the place and in need of editing. There were too many unfinished points and sections that ended and jumped into a new idea without anything to tie them together.

Too many of these unfinished ideas were fears or problems (like having a bad experience with the gyno or hating eir vagina) that the author didn’t evolve. To bring up something like that throughout the whole book without any development doesn’t make sense. It was just the same points over and over without any growth. There needed to be some kind of conclusion to say that things were getting better in at least a small way. Without that, it just spreads these fears to the reader saying this is how terrible it is to be trans and there’s nothing you can do about it.

The ending was so abrupt too. I was surprised there wasn’t another page. Just saying that e’ll tell eir class e’s pronouns next time isn’t enough of an ending for what was seemingly meant to be a story about becoming confident in one’s gender.

I was disappointed to not enjoy this book. There were some relatable aspects but I wasn’t left feeling optimistic after reading it. I understand that this is the author’s memoir and it’s specifically about e’s experiences but I felt it had an overall negative outlook on the trans experience.
