Really great audiobook!
I bought this book months ago, but I've no idea why it took me until now to read it. It was a lovely read, for the most part, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Ash suffers from clinical anxiety and is manic-depressive. He can function, somewhat, but he often feels crushed under other people's expectations. He doesn't cope will with changes in his routine or with social obligations. He's not the most likable character, which he is ok with, because he doesn't like himself, either. His main support system, his best friend Niall, didn't exactly win any points for the first half of the book, either. Niall came off as a self centered jerk, and on at least 2 occasions, I wanted to smack him up side his head. With a 2X4.
Darian is a model from Essex. He's loud and passionate, and not terribly bright, but he has a huge heart and he's really a good guy. I had a bit of trouble with the phonetic spelling for his accent, but I think it's because I'm not sure what it's really supposed to sound like (particularly the cadence) and so I think my brain wasn't translating it right. I normally eat that sort of thing up with a spoon, so this one was a fluke. I do think it was very necessary to write his dialog that way, though, because it is very important to the story to illustrate the class difference between Ash and Darian.
For Darian, Ash was willing to at least try to leave his comfort zone. And he succeeded more than he failed. I was proud of him for that. Something as simple (to most of us) as going to the grocery store, as well as something that would scare the bejesuz out of me (walking down a catwalk at a fashion show), Ash managed to do - because Darian asked it of him.
So, while, Ash does manage to sabotage his relationship with Darian, because he can't see a scenario where he doesn't chase Darian away, he learns that he is stronger than he thinks. And, though it took him way too long to apologize, I loved the scene where he did it. It melted my heart more than a little bit.

When I started this book I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did but I really loved reading this book it had me laughing out loud for half of the book it was a fun read while also looking at mental health issues and how they can impact a relationship
