Hard to review. If I'm not mistaken it's Hall's first book and you can tell ot contains prototypes of later dynamics. I read boyfriend material, 10 things and how to bang a billionaire. This is the first book where the pov is of the posh person.
Ash is a strange fellow. He did win me over though. I don't really know what I think about Hall's choice in portraying Darians dialect.
Niall is an asshole. Like ufffff.
I would recommend the book despite all of these things. It was a quick and enjoyable thing. It's interesting so see where Hall started out. A lot more explicit than later works.

Decently written, fine prose and good rep, but the book was just not for me. I bet this would be extremely powerful for the intended audience, but alas I am not. And the audiobook voices were unbearable.

I love Alexis Hall’s books, and this one wasn’t bad. I just didn’t feel it was as good as the others I’ve read. I did get a little offended by one part when the protaganist was saying they didn’t want to take their medication because it made them fat, and that they would rather be anxious than fat. I’m both fat and anxious…
You can tell this is an Alexis Hall book though, the writing style is unmistakable. I was just left feeling a little underwhelmed.

Glitterland is a beautiful, heartfelt exploration of acceptance, love, and healing. It is also surprisingly funny. The book does not shy away from hard topics like suicidal ideation, self-harm, and the deep-rooted self-hatred that can make loving and being loved feel impossible. Instead, it leans into them with honesty and compassion.

I truly loved the dynamic between the two main characters. I found myself rooting for them harder than I have in a long time. Watching the protagonist struggle, fall down, lash out, and hurt was painful, but it never stopped me from hoping he would find peace and connection. Knowing that the love interest would be there, steady and kind, offering unconditional support made every difficult moment worth it.

This book felt like a balm for anyone who has ever felt too damaged to be loved. It reminded me that even the most fractured hearts deserve softness, laughter, and understanding.

I really don't like it when authors spell words based on the accent of a character, e.g. with spelt wif.
