Alessandro really improved in this one. Still incredibly heavy-handed romance, but that’s what this genre is all about I guess.

For once, I enjoyed the dive into a side character's story from the original trilogy. Catalina and Nevada are still incredibly similar and I notice this across all of IA's MCs. It still makes the ride enjoyable, but predictable at times. The primary difference is how Catalina sees the long term ride of working with Victoria while Nevada straight out didn't want it. I also enjoyed the introduction of other primes and the relationship between Alessandro and Catalina. However, unlike her Kate Daniels series, I feel like the characters jump into I Love Yous (but what can we expect in a trilogy). The feelings between Catalina and Alessandro were incredibly strong for 2 people who had never been together. I still enjoyed the book and the continuation of the Hidden Legacy universe. With the introduction of Stephen Jiang, I'm wondering if he's the next Prime that we can expect Arabella to be paired with?

Hidden Legacy #5
Catalina's story #2
Paranormal Romance
What makes these romance are the relationship is a primary focus. Unlike very many PNR books the steamy scenes are few but there have been some throughout the series.
There is a lot of action in this one and mysteries to solve. A PI, a deputy warden, the head of her house Catalina is an interesting character to see grow through the series.
The magic and world build is great. The characters are wonderful and one of the things I love the most in Ilona Andrews books. The sense of humor and snark is another thing I love.
A great installment, while I still like Rogan more than Alessandro, I am liking Catalina more than Nevada.
Can't wait to crack open the conclusion to this trilogy.

Another great book in the series. I loved the books before but I really loved this one.
We get down to the gritty stuff, the not everything is perfect but we manage somehow stuff.

I had to reread the last chapter from the previous book again to refresh my memory how the last book ended. Since it had been a while I couldn't remember if it was mentioned why he left. It was

I find Catalina and Alessandro's story to be like a hammock on a day with sunshine and a cool breeze. I return to it over and over because it is the right balance of exciting and sexy and cozy for me.

I love the way the authors treat mental magics (ones that influence mind and emotions) as the formidable and ethically challenging things they are. I've read books where magic users casually manipulate the emotions of the people around them and It is NBD.
