This 3rd book in the series had the potential for an exciting and focused portrayal of the four horsemen and the central plot. However, the story seemed to lose track of these compelling elements, leaving them feeling drowned out and overshadowed. The main character, Paca, appeared more irritating and immature in this book, which took away from the overall experience. It was honestly annoying.

The plot's pacing seemed to drag, and I really wish the book focused more on the four horsemen’s character development. Despite these criticisms, the book's brevity and the hope for a more fulfilling continuation in the series remained as the driving force to push myself through this one. I really hope the 4th book isn’t as disappointing as this one was.

This book was mostly plot and basically no spice, although some of the emotional progression in the relationship between Paca and her boys did also happen.

At this point in the series, that split wasn't actually too bad because I'm invested in the story and the mystery so I was pretty much fully entertained learning all the plot stuff, learning more about Paca's true history, and generally filling in the story gaps more. I definitely expected more smut when I started the series but I'm honestly not too disappointed because I'm really enjoying the story on it's own. Keeps me plowing through the books at a pace of basically one a day. Can't wait for the conclusion in the last book!

p.s. the bonus scene at the end
from Kai's point of view was also a fun addition
. Not just because he's still my favorite 😉 but because it provided balance after
Gage was the first one to realize he loved her. It showed that the others - at least Kai - were also having that feeling but just hadn't realized what it meant yet
