Magnificent. This book was absolutely magnificent. Maas never disappoints, and this was an amazing conclusion to this part of the series. The way she writes has such high quality and you can tell she poured herself into this story and it's characters. I loved this book and I will cherish it forever.

SPOILERSSSSS*******

Ok so first NESTIAN THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. I just loved the way Nesta changed so realistically, and how we slowly saw her character arc as her walls of ice melted. Everything was so well thought out and planned with how the war and battles went. They were loosing and yet as more help joined they got the upper hand. And Amren WOWWWWWW.

Amren with Varien was great and I just hated that devastation on his face when everything happened to Amren.

Also WTF HAPPENED WITH RHYS.

"Stay, I begged. Stay."

Sarah J. Maas decided to rip out my soul with the number of times she tortured the Court of Dreams. I could just see it happening, Maas pulling a Veronica Roth and I was like NO WAY HE'S GONE HELL NO. I was just dying in my seat trying to make sense of things. When he said "I love you." I was like dude this sound like a goodbye don't you pull this shit on me. But she did and it was fine and we got Amren back but I'm still traumatized.

But I actually think what scared me more than that scene was when the King of Hybern went to Nesta and Cassian. Nesta is one of my favorite characters and when he snapped her Dad's neck I was so sad for her. Because after everything he didn't do, he finally did SOMETHING and then he was gone. I did not expect him to come into the battle like that but wow was it something. But when the King stepped on Cassian's wings and bone snapped..?!! I wanted that effer to die. And I cried because it was so painful to read all this happening. But Elain. ELAIN. THANK THE CAULDRON FOR HER. I was so happy that it didn't really register. And Nesta got her sweet revenge. GLORIOUS.

Az gave that blade to Elain. It was a weapon that had never failed him, and it had not failed her either.

I wonder if the Bone Carver and the Weaver have found their peace together. I hope so.

That reminds me. THE SURIEL. Oh my god that was horrible and Im so glad Ianthe is dead cause she was just UGHHHH.
"...not just for kindness...but because it was a dreamer."

GOD MY HEART. I mean the Suriel knew. It knew it would be in danger, but it came. Came because she was kind and because it dreamed of a better world.

"Leave this world...a better place than how you found it."

It was interesting how Jurien being a monster was just a mask. A mask that he thought Rhys would see past. "I want to beg for their forgiveness." Is what he said about Miryam and Drakon. Interesting.
And when they went to Greysen's Estate and Greysen freaking yelled at Elain to rake the ring back was being a complete asshole, I cherished the moment when Nesta slapped him. Ahhhh so satisfying.
"'Until Nesta slapped him hard enough his head snapped to the side.
'You never deserved her'" and he really didn't cause she could do so much better. It just broke my heart how she kept that ring on and looked after him. But she can do so much better.

The way that Maas handled the situation with Tamlin was realistic. He needs to face his fears and that uncontrolled wrath of his. When he saw Feyre again at that meeting his face was full of loathing and contempt. And yet he still had his redemption. I thought he would die saving Feyre or something, but no he redeemed himself in other ways.

"Be happy, Feyre."

Because he had to let go of her, and he understood that even though it brought him pain. He saw her there over Rhys, features contorted with agony and he knew that she deserved to be happy.

Also when Mor came out to Feyre... it made sense, and when she told her her story it just brought tears to my eyes because she deserves more than that. And now that we know this I'm wondering what will happen with Lucien, Az, and Elain. Elain seems to be warming to Lucien, but that doesn't mean she wants to be with him like that. I'm not sure if she wants to be with Az, but I personally think they would be great together. The soft flower grower to soothe the shadows. And Lucien did seem to like Vassa. Lucien deserves to be happy. But what do I know? Lucien still loves her and looks with longing every time he sees her. But it's her choice. We'll probably find out in the fourth book cause the characters will probably me mentioned in some way.

END OF SPOILER SECTION ********

I just think this book was written beautifully and that it was great how war was described. Maas does not shy away from the impact of the devastating events these characters face, and I think that's important and more REAL.

This story will stay with me until I am dust between the stars.

It felt a little like going through the motions reading this entry in the series. Stuff happened, but it all felt inconsequential. Tense moments occured throughout the book, or at least moments that should have felt tense, but in reality were resolved within pages.

The story felt like it could have been great if some of the moments were left to simmer. We were promised a great threat from the build up on the previous books and instead the villain seemed almost entirely incompetent. Even the minor moments when he poses a threat pass by in an instant, with the "heroes" never really losing anything of consequence.

The emotional payoff is lacking with this one, which is a shame. It gets an exceedingly generous 3 for decently likeable characters and the hint of a story that could have been excellent if the pacing was better.
