In the Comfort of Shadows by B. Nacole

The MC was pulled into a world where she was told news of something that she believes cant be true. Instead of trying to learn and embrace it she becomes bitchy toward Lo, who at his own fault is rude too, but he tries to be nice in a sense but she is just pissy the entire time and it makes me cringe.

I liked the pacing of it but I feel like it was missing some parts in the middle. I can deduce what happened but I wanted to read more or see more on the pagem so to speak. But I do love the pairing of Lo and Verona, with all of their faults and flaws. I wouldn't mind reading more about them.

I loved this book, it was the perfect mix of angst, romance, the characters learning more about themselves, and spice, normally I'm not a fan of "caring is sharing" but I loved it in ITCOS, there is no jealousy, no drama, I really liked how stubborn, and badass Verona is, I LOVED Nova and Clotho, they're everything, Lux and Calias are the perfect example of playful and fruity, I wish we had gotten to spend more time with the archdemons, but apart from that this book is it if you want paranormal, caring is sharing, badass witch plotlines.

This book had me leaning between choosing three and four stars, but I went with the four stars because I wanted to know more about the world that Nacole has created . This was a very interesting spin on a human crossing the threshold of Death to discover their fated mate story. I liked that this was not a carbon copy of the Hades and Persephone Myth and that it avoided being a straightforward reinterpretation of that story, rather this was one that took inspiration from that original tale and then went off in its own direction. I did want a little more development of Lo’s character to be honest, I enjoyed his character but I felt like there was something more just under the surface. This is where I opted for the higher rating because I believe this is something the final edit of the book may have addressed. With that being said, I would read this book now that it’s published and I would love to see this story continued, maybe being picked up with another demon to bring the full power of this world to bear. I really enjoyed this read and will be checking out future books by Nacole

Review:

I love a relatable and realistic FMC, and Verona certainly is. As someone who can struggle in new and unknown situations and settings, Verona was someone readers who struggle with anxiety can empathize with.

Limbo is a place I could add to my list of worlds I would like to visit, much like the worlds of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Celestial Haven.

The banter, tension and interactions between Verona and Lo were absolutely chef’s kiss.

Will I be reading this again? Yes. Will I be reading more by the author, also yes!

This was such an amazing and fun book. I didn’t expect the story to go the way it did but it surprised me in a good way. Verona was an intriguing character from the start as I couldn’t really figure out what she wanted but neither could she. Seeing her relationship with Lo, the Archdemons of Wrath, evolve was interesting to see. Lo is such a stubborn character due to him being mysterious and not wanting to open up to Verona. The world this story took place in was also a great one and I hope to maybe see some other stories in this world in the future.
Overall I definitely enjoyed this one lots and I can recommend it if you are looking for a steamy witch x archdemon story!
Thanks to the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
