Interesting concept but I struggled with the writing style, felt like we jumped time frequently without a clear indication & it took a few beats to catch up. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly engaging or likable so it was difficult to be invested in their wellbeing. Jumping from third person for the villagers then 1st person for Abi the AI that lives in everyone’s brains(?) felt confusing & unnecessary. I finished it but I didn’t particularly enjoy it.

A few plot lines were dropped. Wish there had been a little more delving into the end times, but understand why the focus was on the present / future.
Interesting that the basic question of the book is: does humanity deserve to exist or to become the creator of the next 'thing'. Hubris, yadah yadah.

I was going to give this a 2.5, which is the score I give a book that I'm neutral about, but the end was so predictable from the first chapter. The fact that it happens after a fake out of a different ending annoyed me.
There is a first person narrator who really serves no purpose in the book. I thought this would have been a much better story without them, or at least if the story was told from a third person perspective rather than first.
