Holding a seance to contact Anna Sewell so she can contribute to my therapy bills due to this book.

(I loved this book so much. I literally SOBBED at the end because my inner horse girl was finally at peace.)

I really enjoyed rereading this children's classic. I read it first when I was very young and also had an animated first version (on VHS!) that I'm fairly certain traumatised me, so it was good to revisit this as an adult and understand my initial fascination.

It's a beautifully written, quite gritty story that doesn't shy away from the harsh realities faced by horses during the Victorian era. I think what makes it so spectacular is that it really makes you feel so strongly for the horses involved (especially Ginger!) and hammers home the importance of treating every living thing with the kindness and compassion they deserve, a message that so many of us forget, even today.

A fantastic book that I included in my article (years ago) on top books for animal right fictions. This book follows the journey of a horse, and depicts the highest and lowest forms of human capacity. Throughout, the author points out the hypocrisy of humans, especially those who are religious and think they're kind or good but who mistreat animals, because they are, after all, God's creatures too. "There is no religion without love, and people may talk as much as they like about their religion, but of it does not teach them to be good and kind to man and beat, it is all a sham". As a Christian vegan, this book really spoke to me.

Read for the first time with my 9yo throughout January (2024) though I watched and loved the 90’s film adaptation.

A classic. Can be dull at times but everyone should read once

This book is just as I remembered.

It's a great classic and good for horse lovers; I will say sometimes the story does just drag on at times and it made me put it down for a couple days, but then I just continued when the time felt right.
