This is a beautiful read and I would expect nothing less from a masterful author like Louise Erdrich, she is one of my favorites. This one was a bit different. It took about 100 pages to get into it but once I did it got better and better. The mother and daughter duo of Crystal and Kismett are amazing characters. The book explores the ideas of what happens when we try and shortcut or cheat the natural order of things. (Hint it usually does not go well in the long run). I highly recommend this book but stick with it, it takes a while to get going.

Meh…it seemed like nothing really happened the entire first half of this novel. It did pick up, and the characters became more interesting and complex. There were some good points, but I was disappointed with the novel overall.
