I feel pretty indifferent to this book. I liked the chapter on The Apocalypse Book Club a lot.

Not Louise Erdrich's best book and there were I felt several flaws. However, there was enough good to compensate for the flaws

Man, I was really looking forward to this one and did not care for the first halfish at ALL. If it were any other author I would've given up before I got that far. It was a bad omen that it wasn't read by the author this time, but I tried to roll with it. Kismet's voice is pretty brutal. It recovers somewhat. The ending is a bit glued on.

IDK, man, I didn't think I could fail to love a book from this author but it was not working for me for way too big a percentage of this one.

TW for financial abuse, they really need to add that one here, it's come up a few times.

I really enjoy Erdrich. This one has a lot of build up, but it's well worth it. The last half is wonderfully woven with moments of profound beauty and depth.
